The Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, along with numerous South Mississippi farmers, crop consultants, and other industry professionals, filed a request to the regional office of the Risk Management Agency (RMA) to adjust the crop insurance final plant dates for cotton in nine South Mississippi counties.

Currently, these counties have a May 25 final plant date. The Federation requested RMA provide a later final plant for these areas. The Federation recommends two separate final plant date zones be created — one set for June 5 and the other for June 10 — both with a ten-day late planting period.

These adjustments will be more conducive to actual plantings in the impacted areas. The Federation will work closely with RMA to see that these changes are approved.
