Six members of the Mississippi Congressional Delegation recently received the “Friend of Farm Bureau” Award for the 115th Congress from the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Every two-year session of Congress, AFBF monitors the voting records of U.S House & U.S. Senate members on key legislative priorities for America’s farmers and ranchers. A “Friend of Farm Bureau” award is given each Congress to those members who have a consistent, strong record of supporting legislation and priorities for us in the agriculture industry.

Sen. Thad Cochran, Sen. Roger Wicker, Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, Rep. Trent Kelly, Rep. Gregg Harper and Rep. Steven Palazzo were recently selected for the award.

“We appreciate everything our Senators and Representatives do to help the agriculture industry in Mississippi,” Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation President Mike McCormick said. “Each one is deserving of the ‘Friend of Farm Bureau’ Award.'”

The House members were scored on the following pieces of legislation.

  • (H.R.5) Regulatory Accountability Act of 2017 Approval;
  • (H.R. 1) Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 Approval;
  • (H.R. 1892) Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 or the FY2018 Appropriations to the Department of Agriculture (USDA) Approval;
  • (H.R. 2) the Agriculture and Nutrition Act or  the 2018 Farm Bill Approval;
  • (H.R. 8) the Water Resources Development Act Approval.

The Senate members were scored on the following pieces of legislation.

  • (PN90) Sonny Perdue to be Secretary of Agriculture Approval;
  • (PN44) Scott Pruitt, of Oklahoma to be Administrator of EPA Approval;
  • (PN55) Neil M. Gorsuch, of Colorado to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the U.S. Approval;
  • (PN42) Robert Lighthizer, to be the U.S. Trade Representative Approval;
  • (H.R. 1) Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Approval;
  • (H.R. 1892) Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 or the FY2018 Appropriations to the Department of Agriculture (USDA) Approval;
  • (H.R.2) The Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 or the 2018 Farm Bill Approval; and the defeat of the Booker-Lee Amendment (3042) to the 2018 Farm Bill.
