This week, the Mississippi legislature focused primarily on appropriations and finance bills. Both the House and Senate passed versions of an appropriations bill for state agencies.
“The Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation is paying special attention to the appropriations bills being presented of both sides of the Legislature,” Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation President Mike McCormick said. “We want to make sure the organizations who help our farmers and ranchers are funded appropriately.”
Some of the budgets MFBF pays close attention to include Mississippi State University’s agricultural units, Alcorn State University’s agricultural units, the Mississippi Board of Animal Health, the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, Mississippi Soil and Water, the Mississippi Forestry Commission and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.
In other news:
- The House passed a bond bill allowing the Mississippi Fair Commission to purchase property next to fairgrounds for additional parking.
