Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, along with the Alabama Farmers Federation and the Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas Farm Bureaus, recently sent a letter to USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue and Under Secretary Greg Ibach commending their efforts to investigate the price margin volatility beef cattle producers experienced following the August 9 fire at the Tyson Beef Plant in Holcomb County, Kansas.

“Alabama Farmers Federation, and the Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas Farm Bureaus have a combined membership of 1.6 million and over 17 million head of beef cattle,” the letter stated. “As many of our members look to market and deliver cattle to feedlots, this continued volatility is creating uncertainty, making crucial risk management decisions even more difficult.”
