To show appreciation for the hard work Mississippi Land Grant University professionals do for Mississippi farmers and the state’s agriculture industry, each year MFBF selects one Mississippi Land Grant University Agricultural Researcher and one Mississippi Extension Agent to receive $5,000 to put toward research and programming.

The MFBF Award for Agricultural Research recognizes a Mississippi Land Grant University Agricultural Researcher for innovative, stakeholder-driven, original research aimed at serving the needs of farmers and ranchers in Mississippi. The MFBF Award for Extension Education recognizes a Mississippi Extension Agent for developing and implementing successful agricultural programs addressing stakeholder-identified problems for farmers and ranchers in Mississippi.

This year, MFBF President Mike McCormick presented Dr. Mark Shankle with the MFBF Award for Agricultural Research and Trent Barnett with the MFBF Award for Extension Education.

“I was honored to present Dr. Shankle and Mr. Barnett with these awards,” MFBF President Mike McCormick said. “Their work fulfills the Farm Bureau mission of making a better life and living for Mississippi farmers and ranchers.”
