Women’s Leadership Program Events

The Women’s Leadership Program hosts a minimum of two Agriculture in the Classroom workshops each year to provide teachers and volunteers with resources to educate students about agriculture.

The Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation will host a Women’s Communications Mini Boot Camp in Jackson at the MFBF state office Tuesday, May 14. This intensive training is open to members interested in building skills needed to communicate about agriculture
and for Farm Bureau.
Participants will benefit from the expertise of AFBF staff and MFBF. Participants will come prepared to present a two to three-minute speech on a specific agriculture issue. Feedback will be given throughout the training to assist participants in becoming stronger
agriculture advocates. After feedback participants will have the opportunity to present a second time implementing what has been learned.

Participants will:
 Learn how to identify, organize and project key messages with clarity, confidence
and passion.
 Gain skills to help increase comfort levels when talking to various
audiences, such as formal presentations, media and legislative formats.
 Discover how to best handle unexpected and challenging questions.
 Practice creating and delivering messages.
 Utilize skills gained to positively engage the non-farming community.

A panel of judges will select a maximum of 20 participants. Complete the attached application and return back to SWLC@msfb.org no later than April 12, 2024. Applicants will be notified of their application status by email on or before April 22. Selected applicants will receive an email prior to boot camp for additional information and speech topics. Applicants will be responsible for their own travel and hotel arrangements, if needed.

We are thrilled to announce the first-ever Ag in the Classroom Volunteer Workshop, scheduled for April 10th at the Sheraton Refuge. The workshop will begin with registration at 8:30 am and conclude around 4:00 pm. This workshop will provide you with valuable insights from teachers on how to connect and stay involved in local schools, how to teach when you get there, and some ideas of what you can do to
promote agriculture in your community.

Highlights of the workshop include:
● Insights from teachers on effective classroom engagement
● A lesson plan for each of our Mississippi commodities
● Essential tools to enhance your impact in classrooms

with workshop fee of $30 per person no later than March 27, 2024, to Mississippi Farm
