In September, Gov. Tate Reeves announced the appointment of Rep. Jim Beckett as Executive Director of the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff. To accept this appointment, Beckett announced his resignation from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

The governor recently announced that on January 10, 2023, there will be a special election to fill the vacated position of State Representative District 23. November 21, 2022 is the deadline to qualify.

Candidates must file a Statement of Intent, a Candidate Petition containing signatures of not less than 50 qualified electors of the district, and submit a $250 qualifying fee to the Secretary of State’s Office.
