Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation recently opened applications for its third annual awards program recognizing one Mississippi land-grant university agricultural researcher and one Mississippi Extension agent whose work has positively and tangibly affected farmers and the state’s agricultural industry. The deadline to apply for both awards is Sept. 1, 2023.
“These awards recognize outstanding work delivered by Mississippi land-grant university professionals who are actively addressing the needs relevant to Mississippi agriculture and forestry,” said Craig Hankins, MFBF Region 1 Regional Manager.
The MFBF Agricultural Research award will recognize one Mississippi land-grant university agricultural researcher for innovative, stakeholder-driven, original research aimed at serving the needs of farmers and ranchers in Mississippi. The winner will receive a $500 cash prize, along with $4,500 in program support, which can fund graduate students or research operations.
The MFBF Extension Education Award will honor one Mississippi Extension agent for developing and implementing successful agricultural programs addressing stakeholder-identified problems for farmers and ranchers in Mississippi. The winner will receive a $500 cash prize, along with $4,500 for programming costs and implementation.
Applicants must submit a letter of support summarizing the nominee’s accomplishments and indicating why the nominee deserves the award from a MFBF member or stakeholder group, such as a County Farm Bureau or state commodity organization, with their application. Award applications can be found here.
