Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Calls on Congress to Move Critical Farm Aid

New Farm Bill Must be Passed in 2025

Jackson, MS (December 18, 2024) –Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation President Mike McCormick today is asking Congress to pass the continuing resolution that includes much-needed support for Mississippi’s farmers.

“Our state’s number one industry is in a dire situation.  We are seeing a crisis in farm country for farmers of our major crops.  Producers are facing this perfect storm of record level production costs, low commodity markets, and an outdated farm safety net,” said Mike McCormick, tenth president of Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation.

“The funding in this bill could mean the difference between planting a crop next year and giving up for many farms in the state,” said McCormick. “We appreciate our members of Congress that rolled up their sleeves to ensure farmers can continue to deliver the safest, most affordable and abundant food supply in the world.”

Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation is thankful our senators and Congressmen in Washington D.C. understand just how dire the situation is for Mississippi farmers and ranchers and their willingness to work on a solution.

“Special thanks goes to U.S. Congressman Trent Kelly for his introduction of the F.A.R.M. Act, the framework that is currently in this important funding bill, as well as U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith in working with her colleagues in the Senate to drive this effort forward,” said McCormick.

There will still be work to do if this continuing resolution is passed. Mississippi Farm Bureau stands ready to assist our delegation to get a new Farm Bill passed so our farmers and members will not lose their operations and livelihoods.

“We urge our Mississippi congressional delegation to pass this legislation and then return in January ready to tackle the challenges facing agriculture,” said McCormick. “Another one-year extension of the farm bill addresses immediate needs, but only a new, modernized farm bill will bring certainty for America’s families, farmers, ranchers and rural communities.”
