Voice of Mississippi Agriculture

On October 30, 1922, representatives from 12 county Farm Bureaus gathered in Jackson to incorporate a statewide Farm Bureau to promote Mississippi crops. Upon signing the articles of incorporation, the group selected the organization’s officers and authorized them to begin conducting business on behalf of Mississippi farmers.

That business was conducted in rental offices on the second floor the Bridges Building, located at 221 East Capitol Street, one block west of the Governor’s Mansion in Jackson. The rental space served the organization well for more than 20 years until it could purchase its own headquarters.

In early 1943, the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors bought a two-story brick building located at 221 North President Street in Jackson. Situated between Capitol Street and the Mississippi State Capitol, this first farmer-owned home of MFBF was purchased for $12,500.

In November 1955, MFBF moved its headquarters to a four-story building on the corner of North President and Mississippi streets. The organization built the office complex to accommodate its growing membership and staff.

Following the continued expansion of the organization, MFBF Board of Directors voted to purchase 28 acres in the southwest quadrant of the intersection of 1-55 North and County Line Road and build a new headquarters there. This state office building, which is still home to MFBF today, was completed and occupied in 1983.
