Voice of Mississippi Agriculture

Seward Family Named MFBF’s 2025 Farm Family of the Year

The Seward family of Jackson County has been honored as Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation’s inaugural Farm Family of the Year, recognizing their nearly 90-year legacy of farming, family leadership, and service to their community. Four generations now work together on the operation, which has grown from peanuts to cotton, cows, and corn—and expanded into a beloved agritourism destination featuring a corn maze and agricultural education programs that have served local schools for more than 20 years.

Known for their strong work ethic and commitment to passing down farming knowledge, the Sewards continue to adapt to modern agriculture while preserving the traditions started by Bud and Rita decades ago. Today, grandchildren Andrew Seward and Megan Brown, along with their spouses Caitlin and Chance, help lead daily operations and prepare the next generation to continue the family’s legacy.

The family takes pride in maintaining and improving the land, embracing creativity and new ideas to promote agriculture to the public and to keep their operation thriving. Their recognition as the 2025 Farm Family of the Year reflects their resilience, stewardship, and lasting impact on Mississippi agriculture and youth education.
