At the end of 2022, 33 Mississippi counties became eligible for the United States Department of Agriculture Livestock Forage Program (USDA-LFP) due to experiencing at least eight weeks of a D2 drought level.
LFP provides payments to eligible livestock owners and contract growers who have covered livestock and who are also producers of grazed forage crop acreage (native and improved pastureland with permanent vegetative cover, including rangeland managed by a federal agency, or certain crops planted specifically for grazing) that have suffered a loss of grazed forage due to a qualifying drought during the normal grazing period for the county.
These eligible counties include: Adams, Alcorn, Amite, Bolivar, Carroll, Chickasaw, Claiborne, Coahoma, Franklin, Grenada, Hinds, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Monroe, Pike, Pontotoc, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tishomingo, Tallahatchie, Union, Warren, Washington, Wilkinson, & Yazoo.
Contact your local Farm Service Agency office to determine your eligibility.
