Women’s Leadership

A growing number of women are becoming powerful advocates for agriculture, which is why it’s important to provide them with resources to sharpen their skills and strengthen their ability to inspire change. The Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Leadership Program provides women with opportunities for growth and development by participating in an array of community and leadership development programs.

Awards & Contests

 

This award was established to recognize, encourage and reward the achievements of women in agriculture. The Farm Woman of the Year recipient should personify the highest level of professional excellence in agriculture.

The Mississippi Farm Bureau Women’s Outstanding Achievements and Recognition Award Program was designed to recognize county Farm Bureaus for outstanding program achievements, which involve leaders and members. The award program promotes the development of a more efficient and effective Farm Bureau Women’s Program, focusing attention on the program of work and accomplishments of the county Farm Bureau Women’s Program. Make sure you have this page turned in and coordinate with your county Farm Bureau membership secretary prior to October 15th .

Use this document to track and report all women’s activities conducted in your county including Ag in the Classroom programs. This needs to be kept on file with your couty Farm Bureau’s membership secretary.

2026 Volunteer Activity Report

This award seeks to recognize a teacher who promotes agriculture in their classroom. The Teacher of the Year recipient will receive an expense-paid trip to the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference and a $500 grant to use in their classroom.

The Farm Dog of the Year Contest seeks to recognize Mississippi’s farm dogs.

2025 Farm Dog Brochure

The Photo Contest serves as a way for the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Leadership Program to obtain photos that accurately portray Mississippi agriculture. Submitted photos may be used in future Women’s Leadership Program publications and promotions.

Coloring Contest

The Coloring Contest seeks to educate second grade students about agriculture through coloring.

The Essay Contest seeks to encourage seventh through ninth grade students to write about agriculture.

Scholarships

The State Women’s Leadership Program Committee presents scholarships to Farm Bureau member students studying in an agriculture area each year.

Berta Lee White Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation’s former State Women’s Leadership Program Chair, Berta “Bert” Lee White. This scholarship will be awarded to a woman enrolled in an agriculture degree at a Mississippi university or community college. Applicants for this scholarship must be Farm Bureau members.

Amount: $3,000

Betty Jo Mills AG Ambassador Scholarship

This scholarship serves as a way for the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation to identity young leaders who are effective at telling agriculture’s story. This scholarship will be awarded to a male or female student attending any Mississippi university or community college that has a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applicants for this scholarship must be Farm Bureau members.

Amount: $4,000

Ag in the Classroom Volunteer Workshop

This workshop will provide you with valuable insights from teachers on how to connect and stay involved in local schools,  how to teach when you get there, and some ideas of what you can do to promote agriclulture in your community.

Women's Communications Mini Boot Camp

Participants will benefit from the expertise of AFBF staff and MFBF. Participants will come prepared to present a two to three minute speech on a specific agriculture issue. Feedback will be given through out the training to assist participants in becoming stronger agriculture advocates

AG in the Classroom Teacher Workshops

The objective of the workshops is to provide information to educate students and the general public as to the AITC is an educational program designed to bring agriculture into the classroom. Its purpose is to increase agricultural literacy among students and educators by providing resources, training, and hands‐on experiences related to agriculture.

Agriculture in the Classroom Teacher Workshops
